EXPLANATION
OF
THE BOP NAME LIST
Please read the following before proceeding to the list
of names...
THERE IS NO COMPLETE LIST of the veterans of the Bay of
Pigs in the
public domain. All printed lists have SPELLING
ERRORS and are NOT COMPLETE. This list is an attempt
at completeness, while at the same time, grouping all
other lists with their spelling variations.
The area known as "Bayo de Cochinos" is NOT translated
properly into "Bay of Pigs". The correct translation
should read, the "Bay of the Cochinos Fish". There is a
fish known in Cuba as the "cochino" fish.
This list of the Veterans of the Bay of Pigs Invasion
includes members of those who landed on the beach at
"Playa Giron", Naval personnel, Air Force personnel,
members of Operation-40, members of the "Second Wave"
which never left Florida, members of certain "Infiltration
Teams", members of "Higinio 'Nino' Diaz Ane's Commando
Team", the Cuban Revolutionary Council, CRC, certain
Americans who participated in support efforts, and others
as noted.
(Complete information on each individual is not given in
this list, only the names and one or two references. For
more information on any listed name may be available
by EMAIL )
DEFINITION AND EXPLANATION:
"R" NUMBERS following the name refer to both the name
and the annotation.
AVBC is the FBI acronym for La ASOCIACION de
VETERANOS de BAHIA de COCHINOS, (The Bay of Pigs Veterans
Association 2506 Brigade).

NAMES, spelling of:
Names in ( ) are not listed in the given
reference; they are spellings given in other references.
This was done to group like names that have different or
erroneous spellings.
Names in " " are aka's or nicknames.
SLASH "/ " after a name, followed by a similar name,
indicates different
spellings in the same reference, such as: LAGO/ LAGE or
PENA/PENAS.
In most cases, the SIR NAME that appears first should be the
correct spelling, or the most used spelling.
de and de la These are placed at the end of a

the entry would be...DIEGO ADAY, Felipe de

KEY TO ANNOTATIONS:
The names of the Bay of Pigs veterans, who were captured and
held for ransom, were taken from the CASTRO INDICTMENT of
these men (R-709). The datum is listed here in the
following order: 1) Occupation 2) age 3) marital status 4)
place of birth. The occupations are "Americanized" as
much as possible. The most difficult is "Empleado"
which translated to "employee", but is given here as
"clerk". The word "Obrero", meaning laborer is the
counterpart. (One is inside work, the other outside
work.) Some men had two occupations; due to space,
only one is listed.
COA= Cooperativa de Omnibus Aliados, a private bus company.
PDR= The province of Pinar del Rio. When Pinar del Rio is
used alone it
is most probably the city. (This is true also for
Camaguey and Matanzas.)
HABANA= is the city.
HAVANA= is the province.
All places of birth are in Cuba unless noted.
NMS= NO MARITAL STATUS given
(This ref. Also gives names of parents and sometimes added
